Insurance company in the Midwest is seeking their next Director of Actuarial to join the Corporate Actuarial team. This position will lead a new team focusing on model validation and controls. This position is essential for the company's management of risk and to assure the appropriate level of profitability. This position is expected to provide actionable information that enables good business decisions and is accountable for project initiatives and business processes.

Responsibilities:

Lead a team of individuals responsible for model risk management oversight
Provide ownership of the overall control framework for the department
Oversee end-to-end model validation and testing including fit for purpose and risk assessment
Perform detailed policy audit testing
Oversee strong documentation and training of control environment
Build and cultivate internal and external relationships to promote and grow the business
Accountability for business plans while focusing on results and measurements
Direct and influence associate and business resources to achieve business results
Monitor the external markets to ensure industry best practices
Provide oversight on stress testing and scenario analysis
Consult and represent company to external stakeholders
Design, test and maintain actuarial models for the specified actuarial purpose
Responsible for training and developing team members
Develop partnerships within the organization to engage in cross-functional business initiatives

Qualifications:

7-10+ years of actuarial experience, including at least 2 years in a formal modeling or control-based environment
ASA or FSA
Prophet software knowledge strongly preferred
4+ years of leadership or management experience
Knowledge of life, annuity, disability income and/or retirement plans products
Ability to clearly and thoroughly document assumptions, decisions, processes, and other work performed
Project management experience with the ability to multi-task and switch back and forth between projects
