Director, Actuarial - Life - Remote - 10034
Client looking to add a Director, Actuarial to join Corporate Actuarial team. This position will lead a new team focusing on actuarial model validation and controls. This detail-oriented, results-driven individual will have advanced knowledge of industry model risk management and control practices and standards and assume the lead in the assigned responsibilities. This position is essential for the company's management of risk and to assure the appropriate level of profitability.
Build out the vision of this new team including training and developing team members
Provide hands-on leadership in developing the controls environment under the company’s multi-year actuarial modernization project.
Provide ownership of the overall control framework for the department including understanding of the various department workflows
Oversee end-to-end model validation and testing including fit for purpose and risk assessment
Actively develop testware strategy and perform detailed policy audit testing with team members
Oversee strong documentation and training of control environment
Support actuarial regulatory monitoring for the department
Build and cultivate internal and external audit relationships
Develop partnerships within the organization to engage in cross-functional business initiatives
Provide oversight on stress testing and scenario analysis to equip management to make strategic decisions
Design, test and maintain actuarial models for the specified actuarial purpose
Bachelor’s in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field or equivalent work experience
7-10+ years of actuarial experience, including at least 2 years in a formal modeling, valuation or other control-based environment
Prophet software knowledge strongly preferred
4+ years of leadership or management experience
Strong attention to detail
Knowledge of life, annuity, disability income and/or retirement plans products with preference toward knowledge of indexed products
Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation. Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Advanced knowledge of insurance products and concepts, actuarial theory and techniques, and regulation of the insurance industry.
Ability to accurately perform detailed calculations with a high-level of understanding.
Ability to clearly and thoroughly document assumptions, decisions, processes, and other work performed.
Project management experience with the ability to multi-task and switch back and forth between projects as needed.
