What inspired you to join the team here?
I’ve always enjoyed meeting new people and learning about their individual stories. The ability to find someone their dream job or put them in a better overall situation is very fulfilling and rewarding.
What do you think sets you apart in your field?
I pride myself on listening and being attentive to what each candidate is looking for in a job change. I keep candidates updated along the way and will always respond and make sure to keep candidates informed throughout the entire process. Candidates will never be left in the dark or have me disappear for days/weeks without a response or update.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I’m an avid Chicago sports fan and enjoy playing golf as much as I can.
What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?
I came to work at SC International as an actuarial recruiter after graduating from college back in 1993 almost 30 years ago. This is the only job I’ve had since.
What do you think our biggest challenges and opportunities are?
Biggest challenge right now is balancing candidate needs and requests with what is realistically possible with clients. Many candidates are pressing the issue right now when it comes to remote or hybrid working arrangements as well as pushing for large salary increases to justify making a change. Clients are in a tough spot needing to get positions filled while also trying to keep internal equity in place and not overpaying just to get a position filled. The opportunity to find a better position both in the short term and long term continue to exist with so many good roles available. Even with the LinkedIn’s of the world, working with a recruiter and having that one on one interaction and exchange of information is still our greatest strength as opposed to just answering job ads and waiting for a response.
What industry changes or trends do you think will have the biggest impact?
Flexibility with where and when you do a job is having a major impact on the actuarial industry right now. Candidates want flexibility and companies who are providing that flexibility will have the easiest time of attracting and keeping top tier candidates.
If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be?
Prague, Czech Republic – have always heard great things about this city and would love to visit someday.
If you could pick any superpower, what would it be and why?
Time manipulation – the ability to stop time or rewind time would be a gamechanger.
How do you prefer to collaborate with partners?
I enjoy collaboration most when it’s done in person where everyone is free to exchange ideas and solutions in an open and welcoming environment. Everyone’s input is important and should be considered.
What tips or advice would you give someone starting a new job?
Work hard and be a team player.
