As the threats of climate change become more and more real, some actuaries are considering it their responsibility to get involved. Acknowledging that actuaries are experts in managing risks and uncertainty, groups like the International Actuarial Association are making climate change education a priority.
The IAA is taking a three-pronged approach: collaborating at the local, regional and international levels with organizations ranging from the Bloomberg Task Force to the European Union and the United Nations. As actuaries continue to assess the risk of extreme weather events and rising sea levels, their involvement will be essential to a global solution.
